Taveuni’s very own new Tagimoucia Festival

Written  by Kirsty Barnby

I am helping to organise this little island event. We have a super team full of great ideas and at least twenty free workshops from composting to diving, skateboarding to weaving. Please contact me or dive@taveunioceansports.com if you would like to take part!

When:

  • Saturday 24th August 2013
  • All day Saturday–free workshops, fundraiser volleyball tournament and local food vendors
  • Saturday night concert 6:00-10:00 pm

The Tagimoucia Festival is a celebration of Fiji’s unique cultural heritage, encompassing world-class local musicians, native arts, local foods, and sports.

This not-for-profit event’s aim is to focus on increasing awareness on the impact of rubbish on the local environment and as a fundraiser to begin a recycling and waste management program for Taveuni.

Other aspects include free workshops focusing on solar energy, compost making, magimagi, voivoi mat weaving, masi making, painting, coconut jewelry making, ocean and reef conservation, scuba demonstrations, and crafts from recycled materials to name a few.  The Tagimoucia Festival will strive to be a “zero waste” event.

Where:

  • Wairiki Hall, Taveuni

Cost:

  • Adults, $8.00 concert fee
  • Children $2.00

What You Can Do:

We need your help!  We are looking for volunteers and sponsorship/donations of any amount.  We need to raise $4000 to cover our start-up expenses.  All proceeds of the event will go to Taveuni’s first recycling and waste management program.  We are a group of island-wide Taveuni residents who are dedicated to creating a clean island and pristine Fiji for all.  Please e-mail dive@taveunioceansports.com or call 994 9697 to make a donation or offer your support.
