Bouma National Heritage Park in Fiji

Written by Kirsty Barnby

Protected areas such as the Bouma National Heritage Park that have little active management and are under some threat from expanding small-scale subsistence and cash-crop agriculture – especially kava (yagona), is our priority. Here at Island Spirit we take our guests deep into the forest to experience how many villages live and thrive.

One of the many stunning waterfalls in this untouched area of Fiji where eco-tourism is thriving.

The encroachment of small-scale subsistence and cash-crop agriculture is likely to continue unless local people are more aware of (and benefit more directly from) the links between tourism income and the conservation of Taveuni’s reefs and traditional village and rainforest environment. Namely eco-tourism.
